There’s No One There

She sits alone and trembles in the dark
As she tries vainly to understand what’s going on
She shame and guilt she carries in her heart have torn her gentle soul apart.
How she wishes she could just simply pass beyond.

When did it all start? This wasn’t what she chose.
Is there anyone at all who really cares?
If someone gets too close, will the secret be exposed?
The innocence is gone and there’s no one there.

He sits silently in the corner all alone.
Slowly dieing inside with each day that passes by.
Gone the smile that once glowed and the sparkle that once shown.
Unable to trust again no matter how hard he tries.

When did it all start? This wasn’t what he chose.
Is there anyone at all who really cares?
If someone gets too close, will the secret be exposed?
The innocence is gone and there’s no one there.

Children are hurt and crying desperately for help.
Lost souls that once were filled with love and free of pain.
They need to know that they can tell and put an end to the living hell.
And learn to live and love and trust again.

When did it all start? This wasn’t what they chose.
Can’t we show them that we really care?
If someone gets too close, can the secret be exposed?
Bring back the innocence and let them know that someone’s there.
